Link bars in Frontpage showing in offline browser preview but not on live site after uploading to web server?

Question by Ragazza: Link bars in Frontpage showing in offline browser preview but not on live site after uploading to web server?
I do have Frontpage extensions enabled on the server. The site has page banners, link bars and a discussion forum and only the discussion forum works on the live site. So it seems that the Frontpage extensions do work, but not for the link bar and the page banner. When I open the live site (remotely) in Frontpage, it says in the location where the link bar should be something like: "add page to navigation structure to show linkbar" whereas it works perfectly well offline (locally) and I copied the entire file structure over to the web server. Do I have to re-create the navigation structure remotely? Is that normal? My ISP is 1and1 and I have Linux hosting.

Answer by Chris S
Be sure to check your file permissions to make sure they are readable, as this is necessary to view the link bar and banner after upload.

Also, check your code/script to make sure the files aren't being referenced by local address as it is highly unlikely that 1&1 uses the same file structure for storage as your local setup. If you are on Windows, (which I assume you are from Frontpage), make sure the pages you create don't use "C:/address/filename.extension" or something similar. They will need to be "http://yoursite.com/filename.extension" or "/filename.extension" if the linkbar and banner are stored in the root web directory, or "/folder/filename.extension" if they are in an "images" folder or something similar.

Good luck!

ASP.NET Hosting Services Reviews and Comparison: Best ASP.NET Web Hosting Only $3.99 /month – Cheap Unlimited ASP.NET SQL Server 2008 Hosting Sites From ThreeHosts.com

(PRWEB) September 28, 2013

Threehosts.com compares top ASP.NET web hosts and announces that GoldPuma is the most recommended company. This comparison is based on their speed, reliability, support, features and price.

GoldPuma provide both Linux and Windows web hosting packages. Their Windows-based plans support ASP, ASP.NET, ASP.NET AJAX, PHP5, ASP.NET MVC3, Silverlight, and Server Side Includes (SSI). ASP.NET is a server-side web application framework designed for web development to produce dynamic web pages.

GoldPuma lets it's clients do monthly payments. Paying monthly allows clients to switch web hosts quickly when they find that the current host does not meet their requirements. This way, they are not tied down to a bad web host because they have prepaid for an entire year. Most web hosting providers dont have a monthly pay option. They require you to pay for a full year of hosting up front. Users should be able to realize that there really is no reason for them to agree to pay annually. The only reason to require a client to pay annually is to tie them down to services they have not tried before.

If webmasters have a small budget available to host their websites, GoldPuma is the ideal hosting provider. They offer plans designed for users that want the best hosting plan with features that they need, but at an affordable price. Their hosting plans are ideal for most individuals and small businesses. They're the affordable, reliable place to host any website, offering features like a 99.9% network uptime commitment, 24/7 support, and free access to their exclusive Value Applications - with every hosting plan! Their secure, reliable web hosting plans feature unlimited bandwidth and free software.

The full reasons that result in GoldPuma being rated the most reliable ASP.NET hosting company are reachable at http://www.threehosts.com/windows/best-asp.net-web-hosting-reviews.html.

About Threehosts.com Threehosts.com is a reliable resource for web hosting company reviews and ratings, including non-commercial hosting and eCommerce. They provide a list of top 3 web hosts.
